Update on Pope Elementary Medical Incident 11/1/2024

New information provided by the Harris County Pct. 5 Constableā€™s Office: The individual in question was not a minor.

Residents of Bridgeland may have heard there was a medical incident involving a minor at Pope Elementary this afternoon around 4 p.m.

Rumors spread like wildfire regarding the nature of the incident, to include the minor being hit by a car or a fatality on campus. These rumors were ultimately found to be false.

The update provided to Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 419 (HCMUD 419) and Bridgeland Water Agency (BWA) by the Harris County Pct. 5 Constableā€™s Office was as follows:

  • A minor suffered from a critical seizure on campus around 4 p.m.
  • Upon coming to, the minor bolted off campus and into a detention pond nearby
  • The minor swam across the pond, where they were apprehended by the constables
  • Responding constables handed off the minor to EMS to be evaluated and transported to a medical facility for further observation

The BWA and HCMUD 419 implore residents to verify information shared on social media, and to make sure facts are being shared to prevent mass panic, confusion, or misinformation. In the event of emergencies affecting multiple residences in the Bridgeland area, it is imperative things being shared are accurate and efficiently disseminated to minimize harm and incident.
